How to make a Basketweave Cutting Board Remastered
The number one critique I get on the original video is that it's too long, too talky, and too boring. Followed in close second by the lighting being poor.
To be fair, they were right. I kept in WAY too much repetitive cutting, and droned on too much about what I was doing. It was also before I added my LED shop lights, so it was very dark.
In an effort to make the video more watchable I went in with a hatchet and cut out (almost) everything that wasn't actually necessary, and trimmed 71% off the run time. I also brightened the individual clips so it doesn't feel (as much) like woodworking in a cave.
It also always gets asked what router bit I used to flatten the board. You can find them here...

Making the Dumpster Fire Yule Log
Просмотров 414Год назад
Back at the end of 2020 when everyone was referring to it as a "dumpster fire" I got the silly idea to make a dumpster from scraps, and set it on fire as a 2020 appropriate yule log. I built it, but never got around to the ire bit, so it sat there for two more years. Luckily 2021 and 2022 haven't been all that much of an improvement, so the concept still works, haha. “Anything worth cutting down a tree for is worth doing right don’t the lord love a 2x4!” Guy Clark
wow interesting video. for me the basket wave cutting board is one of the most beautiful. I happen to do them too
I love this design. Good work.
@7:08 lol the shameless self plug. much more funny starting with the "i used my great grandfathers.."
@14:17 hahaha lololol
Good job 👍🏼 beautiful cutting board
No riving knife, not even a push rod. Man you are asking for big trouble handling a table saw like that.
I didn’t find one minute of this boring Brandon.
Good job, but do you have such a dull saw blade or are you so afraid of saw work that you cut parts so slowly and even with a 250 mm saw blade you cut a 50-60 mm board in two cuts? Your saw with a good and sharp saw blade can do it in one pass and much faster. Comparing with my Makita MLT100A saw.
How thick is the final cutting board? inch and a quarter? inch and a half?
You’re hardcore dude. Nice work using what you had to work with. Glad to see your perseverance and dedication to make it happen.
Hey how long are the 6 pieces you glue up ? Ty
Of all the things I wish I remembered, I wish I remembered that the most, haha. When I made it it never crossed my mind that anyone would want to know, yet that's been the #1 question.
How long are the 9 pieces you cut?
I watched this video when you first made it a while ago...still great info and guess it's still hot down there in Tejas!
It's a little cooler right at the moment, but not much!
I'm making another one.
Merci du partage!!
Nice job. You are right, a rip blade would make your life easier. I had a 1.75HP craftsman and was easily able to rip 8-¼ maple.
Great looking board!
Awesome job, I might have to make this for my first cutting board! Keep the dual brandon shots coming!
How long are the strips you start width ? Very helpful video…thanks.
Very well done. Video was interesting and informative.
Très jolie bravo et bonne vidéo dommage je comprends pas l’Anglais 🤣👍
A true master class!
I used your video to make the same cutting board. Yours turned out better than mine!😂 I'll keep watching your videos. Thanks for posting
OMG, that was the most boring video I've ever seen. So enjoyable just watching cut all the timber, I swear that was at least half the video
Cool build , THANX for the video. Do u not get any snipe from ur planer, if so what's ur trick ??
I get relatively little snipe if I have the beds level. I'll also often lift the end of a piece coming out to lessen the snipe. Usually I'll just cut my board a couple of inches long so the snipe is on the waste bit, but if I'm running multiple pieces I'll feed in the next piece before the current piece is all the way out so the cutter never drops.
Nice combo build. The only one I've seen and I'm a RUclips junkie. Makes me want to go out and get a brisket...
Now that you mention it, I'm about due for another brisket myself.
I’m sorry, I couldn’t even finish watching. If you are going to do this get the equipment to do the job.
😂Thanks for the laugh.
I’ll iii-rd that tite bond idea….
Che talento ! Bravo
I am going to make one of these for my mate he is a huge Pink Floyd fan.
What were your starting dimensions? And your finish dimensions? I want to make one of these boards! Thx I know you ended up with the squares being 2” . How long were your boards when you started?
You sir, are an incredible man, husband and father.
Looks better than a bought one and you had the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
Quick question, when you used your router to flatten the panel, what type of but did you use?
This one: geni.us/0ibEA25
Before the trench what did you use for a router bit?
is the wavy look just an optical illusion? I didnt see him cutting any curves but it looks woven and wavy.
I am pretty new to woodworking. Made this board as a gift to my brother and sister, they came out beautiful. Thank you!
Hey, great job!
I saw you made end grain mortar strips about halfway through the video, but did you make the tiny individual vertical mortar strips end grain as well?
Yep, 100% end grain.
@@brandonthebuildertx ok I was confused. Was the video somewhat out of order then? Because the other thin strips were already in place before you showed how to make the end grain strips. By the way, I’ve watched 6-7 tutorial videos on this brick pattern and yours is by far the most helpful of the bunch. I’m about to make my first board and was considering giving this pattern a shot.
@@toddstrother136 the narrow strips are glued to the brick sections while they're all still "edge grain", then when you cut them it all turns 90° together to become end grain.
@@toddstrother136 glad I could help!
I realize this is an older video, but I wanted to let you know that I really like this pattern. So much so that I am making one as a wedding gift for my son. Having said that, it was sooo painful to watch you struggle to rip that maple up. A dedicated rip blade will save time and effort. Nice video!
I'm glad you like it!
Don't be a saw stop cult member. All you have to do is be smart enough to not put your fingers anywhere near the blade and you never have to worry about them being cut off. I have two powermatic 3horsepower cabinet saws, and I would never use anything else.
Nothing worse than an arrogant “I’m too smart to have a table saw injury” Powermatic table saw cultist. Stay safe out there.
@@Shotsmoky I won’t have to worry about injuries, because I am smart enough to keep my fingers away from the blade. All you need is common sense and you can keep your fingers too. There are several dozen/hundred/ thousand other woodworking tools that can easily cut your fingers off just as easy, if not easier than a tablesaw and they don’t have that technology. What do you do to keep your fingers when using those other tools? Common sense right? Duh!
Good tip with the square
Subscribed!!!
I don't want to become a troll, but the motor of this saw was taken from the Chinese dildo or something similar 😅
The heat from that cheap blade is bending it, and jamming even more... been there lol
Savage..................use some mindfulness to appreciate the descriptive message in that one word.
Excellent video - you have a great voice 33:13
Melt my heart !!! Your precious child!!! Have her work along side you. My grandfather was a Taylor that liked work done well but expected from his new beginners . Perfection is good but must be done in increments will new learners and little ones!
Where is your helper? I enjoy your humor, and your videos.
The audio is brutal 😂
How's that?
